As The Leader Grows with Ken Joslin

Coaching with Ken | Extraordinary Habits

Ken Joslin

Welcome to our latest podcast episode where we unpack the transformative power of habits! In this episode, we dive into the concept of 'incremental, not monumental,' discussing how small, disciplined daily decisions can lead to an extraordinary life. Our conversation also touches on potent principles from the classic book "Think and Grow Rich," which highlight the roles of positive thinking, goal setting, and persistence in achieving success. Finally, we delve into the significance of morning routines and the often-overlooked importance of self-forgiveness in habit formation. If you're ready to make extraordinary habits a part of your day-to-day life, this episode is a must-listen!

Speaker 1:

What's up? What's up, fam? Welcome to another episode of as the Leader Grows. As always, I am your host, ken Jocelyn, and I am Well, I'm always excited, but I am super excited about today. I'm super excited about what we're going to talk about and, for those of you guys that were at Create in Dallas, you heard what I believe is probably one of the top I don't know handful of talks I've ever heard in my life from my good friend, erwin McManus, on Thursday night at our pre-conference. It was phenomenal and Erwin started his entire conversation.

Speaker 1:

If you've never heard Erwin, obviously, man, you need to check him out, because he is one of my favorite communicators on the planet. He pastors theosaic church in Hollywood and he's an unbelievable. He's a world-class communicator. But he shared a verse of scripture out of First Corinthians, chapter two, where Paul talked about how God gives us, as people of faith and followers of Christ, the mind of Christ. He literally gives us the mind of Christ, and this is what Erwin said. When he said it, I was like, oh my gosh, this is so good. He said God didn't give you the mind of Christ for you to live an average life. He gives us, as people of faith and Christ followers, the mind of Christ so that we can live extraordinary lives. And I'm telling you, there was something on the inside of me that just kind of I mean just kind of came alive, as he kind of unpacked what it looks like to live an extraordinary life for the life of the entrepreneur, for the life of a, of the believer. What does it look like for us? You know, and he even made the comment and he's right for the most part that you know, really the only difference, or the Well, it's really hard to tell the difference, but really the only difference between what you know a person of faith would call people in the world people without faith and people with faith, is people with faith A lot of times just say, well, I have Jesus, but our lives don't look any different and God didn't do what he did for us, for us to live average lives.

Speaker 1:

When he said that man, god gave us the mind of Christ so we could live extraordinary lives, I literally, while he was talking, started taking notes and processing through and I was like in, literally the first thing that popped up was my, my concept incremental, not monumental. You know, I talk about it a lot over the past three years. Incremental, not monumental, is small, daily, disciplined decisions over time, always, always, always, always, always equal, monumental results. Success cannot escape you when you do the right things every single day. It is impossible. The problem is there's a lot of us we can't be consistent in our disciplines. So I started processing and playing, I literally.

Speaker 1:

So Friday, thursday morning, we kicked off create the conference. Obviously it's my conference, so I open it up and I open the conference up and I just really kind of piggybacked off of Irwin's big idea of in 1 Corinthians 2.16, where it says we have the mind of Christ. God didn't give us the mind of Christ so we can live average lives. He gave us the mind of Christ so we can live extraordinary lives. I kind of dug down in that even more and was like, okay, this is information's great, he's a thousand percent correct, but what is something tangible I can put in the hands of? You know the hundreds of people that are at create, the thousands of people that listen to my podcast. What is something tangible I can put in their hands?

Speaker 1:

So today I want to talk about extraordinary habits. I want to talk about extraordinary habits because really extraordinary habits is just another way to say incremental, not monumental. Small daily discipline decisions over time always equal monumental results. Success cannot escape you when you do the right things every single day. It's impossible. It's impossible for success to outrun you Like literally, it cannot get away from you. As a matter of fact I say this the longer you lean into and you practice those small daily discipline decisions, you stop chasing success and significance and success and significance almost start chasing you. It's like you can't help but attract amazing world class people in your life. You can't help but start seeing unbelievable things happen in your life because of your disciplined approach. So literally we I took his talk. I just kind of piggybacked off of what Irwin said Wednesday night as he opened the conference in our pre-conference and just said you know what you want? Extraordinary life. You have to have extraordinary habits. Then right behind me steps in my good friend Brinne Brouchard, who is the habit guy, right, and he just continues to drill down on the importance of habits. So I came back. We're actually in the middle of our GSD community right now. Listen, if you're a faith based entrepreneur and you're listening to this, this podcast, and you're not a part of a community, you need to be a part of our GSD community. It is, for me, it's beyond a shadow of a doubt the number one entrepreneur, faith based entrepreneur community in the world.

Speaker 1:

We meet every Monday morning at 8 am Eastern for a 45 minute zoom coaching call called Kickstart your Week, where we talk about what are we doing this week. It's a vision led, high energy, high impact. Let's go out and let's go out and crush it this week. What are we going to do to dominate this week? Then, wednesday night we meet every Wednesday night at 8 pm Eastern and we theme every month out, like we literally just finished a couple months of going through thinking grow rich, all 13 principles. I just finished, a week before last, with what was the last couple of ones we did, and we did the power of your, of your, the sixth sense. The sixth sense was last, when we didn't in the power of like your imagination, your mind, being smart, being around intelligent people, and so we theme those out.

Speaker 1:

I have great friends of mine, like Sharon Lecter, co-author of Rich Dad, poor Dad, who's on the Napoleon Hill Foundation board and is the co-author of Outwitting the Devil, the last manuscript Napoleon Hill ever wrote. That gave to Sharon and she went to her place in San Diego by the ocean where she writes and she put the Outwitting the Book Devil together. Sharon visited. She talked about the power of the mastermind by good friend Greg Reed visited. So every month we theme it out. We go through our core five faith, health, relationship, business and finances a couple of times a year and I have amazing friends that come on to be able to share as well. It's an unbelievable community. I've got three online courses on mindset strategy, leadership development and an unbelievable Facebook community.

Speaker 1:

Like right now we're doing a 21 day. It's called the extraordinary habits 21 day challenge and we've got three components to the challenge that we're doing. One is our GSD planner and its goals gratitude affirmations, top three every morning. The second part of that challenge is our Monday, wednesday call. You get points for showing up. The third part of the challenge is shooting a video and putting it on our private Facebook page and we just tally up all the points and whoever's winning the points at the end of the 21 days wins a $1,500 executive ticket to one of my create conferences. And second and third is is a $400 general mission ticket to our create conference. It's fun and we have a blast, but if you want to live an extraordinary life, you literally have got to have extraordinary relationships.

Speaker 1:

But I want to talk about extraordinary habits. Small daily discipline, decisions over time always equal monumental results. What does your daily habits look like? Or what do your daily habits look like For me? I've said this a million times. I literally can't stop talking about my morning routine or my daily routine. My good friend, john Maxwell, speaks at Create every year in Atlanta says show me your daily routine and I'll tell you how successful you're going to be. Like, it's literally all in your habits.

Speaker 1:

When you learn to create habits which is what we're doing in this 21 day Challenge that we're doing inside of our GSD community the extraordinary habits challenge what happens is, once you create a habit, it's just automatic. Like when my alarm clock went off this morning, I grabbed my phone, I went straight to my iTunes, I put one of my worship playlists on a shuffle, grab the song, went over to Instagram, shared it on my Instagram story, put the music to it, put a little slider on there Little little, you know, like Hallelujah hands emoji or whatever you want to call it and I just put that to different people to know. Man, this is the first. This is how I start my day. Then I go over to my U version. I do my, I do my, my U version Bible app, I do whatever devotional I'm doing right now in the book of Hebrews, I do that. And then, as soon as I'm done with that, it pops up a screen so you can share, you know on social media or send a text. I send it to my guys. I send it to my guys every single day. I send it to them and they go hey guys, this is my, this is what I'm reading today. I think it's Hebrews, chapter like nine, 10. Here's what God spoke to me today. I hope you guys have an amazing day. Go crush it.

Speaker 1:

And then it's literally my pre-workouts made. It's in the refrigerator, it's ready to go for me to go work out. My workout clothes are laying on my chest or doors next to my bed. My my shoes with my socks are laying. I get up, I walk over to my, my podcast studio and I grab my planner. And it is goals, gratitude affirmations, top three, while I'm getting dressed, drinking pre-workout, waiting for my five AM or five 30 AM workout. My morning routine is solid. It's iron clad. It doesn't matter where I'm at. My morning routine is solid.

Speaker 1:

And for those of you guys that, really, when you, we and I talk about having extraordinary habits and how extraordinary habits lead to an extraordinary life, for those of you guys that understand the concept of extraordinary habits, you know that, man, when you get out of your routine it'll jack you up. You're like I can't function, it's like something's not right, like I got to go, I got to go work out, I've got to get you know, I've got to get my quiet time and I've got to do the things that I do every single day my goals, gratitude affirmations, top three. When I get in to do my mirror work and I'm looking in the mirror and I'm going like right now, sitting in my podcast studio, I'm looking at my phone, I've got the camera flipped around, I'm looking at myself in the eye and I'm going Ken Johnson, dude, I love you, I do. This is something Dr Rob Kelly taught me. Ken Johnson, I love you, bro, dude. I love the way you show up for your friends, dude. I love the way you show up for your four daughters. I love the way you love your community. I love the way you pay the price in the gym to become the healthiest version of yourself. Ten times I do that and then I go through my affirmations. I have a millionaire mindset. I will live a life where my heart, head and relationships are in alignment. Ken Johnson, you honor and respect those you love most. Your actions will be a true reflection of your heart. Ken Johnson, you are whole. You choose to use past pain to help others find healing. And Ken Johnson, you are enough because you are his child. Goals, gratitude affirmations top three. My top three today were my VSL, that we're working on my team meeting, that we just finished up just a little while ago. Killer 30 minutes with part of the team and 30 minutes with another part of the team. And then I got to record a couple of podcasts today. Those are my top three today Goals gratitude affirmations top three.

Speaker 1:

So here's the question this podcast is going to be quick. Today I'm going to knock this podcast out in 15 minutes. What does your morning routine and your daily routine look like? What are some extraordinary habits in your life? Let me ask you this question because every single one of us listen. I say this man is lovingly and is as much grace as I can say it because I find myself here as well.

Speaker 1:

Everybody does Listen. There's so many different seasons throughout the year of our life. I'm not talking about winter, fall, summer. I'm talking about seasons where it's good, or seasons where a friend that you thought was one person and you found out they're not, there's somebody else, or somebody turns their back on you, or you have a bad, you make a bad business decision, or or this, this, this program you want to launch doesn't work the way you thought it was going to and it costs you a lot of money. Listen, it happens. Life's tough.

Speaker 1:

My pastor, chris Hodges, is past week in Highlands. He actually talked about. He said listen, you're either on your way out of trouble. You're either in trouble or you're on your way into another season of difficulty. Life can be hard. So what does?

Speaker 1:

What does your morning routine look like? Man? Listen, when I get my goals, gratitude affirmations, top three in, I do what I want to do and I get locked in every single day. Dude, my day is good, but some of us we've been disappointed in the past and we may not be disciplined right now. It's okay. Number one person you need to forgive is you Forgive yourselves. Move forward and get it done tomorrow. It's actually it's. I'm on the, I'm on the West Coast, so it's a little early today. It's only four. It's four o'clock. I usually. I usually do these early in the morning. On Monday morning, about five, 36 am on recording podcast, but this is actually in the afternoon.

Speaker 1:

What do you need to lock in on? Where did you have extraordinary habits in your life before that have kind of waned off? Because a lot of times, guys, we get busy. Extraordinary habits lead to an extraordinary life. An extraordinary life a lot of times can lead to blessings and abundance, and blessings and abundance can lead to busyness. Busyness will erode away at the very thing that got you where you are, and that's your extraordinary habits. Someone, encourage you, make a list right now. What are some extraordinary habits that you have, what are some extraordinary habits that you had in the past and what are some extraordinary habits that you need to establish now? Jump in our 10-day challenge and finish this 21 days with us. Jump in this Goals. Grab the two affirmations top three every single day. Like, we don't miss, we don't miss, we do not miss Like. It's not negotiable. For me it's like breathing. I get up, my morning routine is what my morning routine is and it's been the same way for over three years, which is how we started a company and in three years we scaled it to a seven-figure company. In the third year we did seven figures 1.18 million in revenue last year, just on the GSD side. That doesn't even count our real estate stuff. How do we do it? Incremental, not monumental. All daily discipline, decisions over time, always equal monumental results. It's called extraordinary habits. Extraordinary habits lead to they always lead to an extraordinary life.
