A door doesn’t open because you want it to, it opens when the right signal hits the receiver. That’s the picture I can’t stop thinking about as I introduce the 14 Frequencies of Proximity and why I’ve taught for years that proximity is a cheat code. When you look back at your biggest growth moments in faith, health, relationships, business, or finances, chances are they’re tied to a relationship and a decision to get closer to the right people and to God.

We start with Frequency #1: faith, the foundation frequency. I unpack Hebrews 11:1 and ask the question most of us avoid because it forces clarity: what are you hoping for? Not a general “I’m trusting God,” but a specific, written-down, prayed-through target you can actually name. Then we walk through Mark 10 and blind Bartimaeus, where Jesus asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus answers with simple precision: “I want to see.” That moment is a blueprint for specific faith and bold prayer.

I also share pieces of my own story, from coming to Christ to building daily habits that keep my faith strong, plus why accountability and clear goals mattered in my health journey. If you’re a faith-based entrepreneur or Christian leader who wants stronger spiritual disciplines, better relationships, and a clearer path forward, this is your starting line.

Subscribe for the next frequency, share this with a friend who needs clarity, and leave a review so more people can find the show. What are you hoping for right now?

Welcome And The Key Fob

SPEAKER_00

Hey guys, welcome to another episode of Proximity with Ken Jocelyn. I am your host, Ken Jocelyn, and I am super excited to dive in today to my new book, 14 Frequencies of Proximity. Now, last week we talked about basically an overview of the 14 frequencies. I talked about the power of the key fob. Now, I took my wife and I to the pool yesterday, and we get to the, we've got a beautiful pool on our subdivision. And when you get to the pool, you have to have a key fob to be able to hit that card reader for the door to be able to open for you to be able to go into the pool. And during the research getting ready for this book, we found out that a key fob has what's called a 14-bit proxy code. Now, that proxy code are 14 frequencies when they align with or are received by the receiver. What happens is there's a connection made, the door unlocks, and you get to go into the next level or in the pool, if you will. And so I wrote this entire book about 14 frequencies that we need as faith-based entrepreneurs or Christ followers to be able to build the relationships that we need to go to the next level in our life. And so I've been teaching a message for about three years called Proximity is a cheat code. And I want to challenge you in this before we even start. Today we're going to dive into frequency number one, the found the faith frequency, which is I call the foundation frequency. Faith is the foundation of everything that we do. It's the first step in our core five framework of faith, healthy relationship, business, and finances. But I just want to challenge you today to think about every time that you've gone to the next level in your life. It can be in any of those core five framework areas. It can be in really that encompasses all areas of your life. But in any area of your life, I challenge you to remember a time where you went to the next level in that area of your life, and it was not tied to a relationship. Every time in my personal life, I look back in my life at me going to the next level, it's always been tied to some type of a relationship. So proximity really is a cheat code. And these 14 frequencies, as we walk through these next two or three months on these frequencies, I promise you, if you'll dive in, grab your pen, paper, take some notes, I promise you, this will help impact your life. It will give you the ability to be able to build the relationships you need to be able to go to the next level. As a matter of fact, right before this podcast, sitting here looking at my computer, I got a text message from my good friend Gary Brecca, the number one biohacker in the world, Gary and Sage are at all of our create conferences that have been for the past five or six years. Gary and I have been friends now for about five years, which it's it's not coincidental, goes right back to the very beginning of my personal health journey. You've been following me at all, you know I've dropped about 100 pounds. I stay about 95 to 100, 105 pounds of body fat down from where I was five years ago. I met Gary right at the very beginning of that process. Through all throughout the process of every time I'd plateau and get stuck, I had a relationship in Gary that I could reach out and have a conversation with, and it would help me move to that next level. So today I want to talk about frequency number one, which I call, which frequency number one is faith. I call it the foundation frequency. And one of my favorite scriptures, I'm gonna hit two today, but one of my favorite verses is Hebrews 11:1. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. And what I found is a lot of people really don't hope for things because they're afraid that they won't get them. And when we don't hope and when we don't believe, and I'm gonna talk in just a minute about when we aren't specific, what does that faith look like in your life? Is your faith specific in your life? Listen, hope doesn't feel good, but it will create a movement. Hope you can't, it's not like I can reach out and touch it and feel it. There has to be a knowing on the inside of my heart. As a Christ follower, as a faith-based entrepreneur, God, this is the dream that you have put in my heart. So, very beginning, foundation number one or frequency number one is faith the foundation frequency. So most of us as entrepreneurs, we pray for vision. We're like, God, give me a vision, God, do this in my heart. But this frequency, guys, has to come first.

Proximity As A Cheat Code

SPEAKER_00

Hope is not just a wish. Hope is biblical, it's scriptural. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. That's why I write my goals down twice a day, every day, at least 300 times a year. Because I'm saying, okay, God, this is the dream and the vision that you put in my heart. And this is what I am believing you for. Hope is the substance. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. So my question to you today, as you're listening to this podcast, is what are you hoping for? What does that look like in your life? A lot of people say, Well, I'm just trusting God. Well, what are you trusting him for? Like, what specifically are you trusting him for? So I want to go back before I even share a little bit about my story. I want to go back into Mark 11. I love this scripture. It's the story of Jesus and blind Barnabas. Actually, it's Mark chapter 10. Mark chapter 10 and verse 46. I'm going to read this to you real quick. It says, When they reached Jericho, and as Jesus and his disciples were leaving the town, a large crowd followed him. Now, just think about this in your, like get this picture, this movie in your head. There was a blind beggar named Bartimaeus who was sitting beside the road. And when Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was near, listen to this, he began to shout, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. So here's this blind guy. And we know back in New Testament times, like when you're blind, literally the only way you have to earn a living is number one, either your family takes care of you, number two, you're a beggar. You have to beg for people to give you alms and for people to support you or give you finances, literally, so you can live. So he's blind. He heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, and he began to shout, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. In verse 48, as the crowd normally does, the crowd said, Be quiet. Said, be quiet. Many of the people yelled at him, but he shouted only louder, son of David, have mercy on me. There was something in him where he knew, listen, Jesus' presence is near. I need to take advantage of this opportunity. This is a kind of a sidebar note on the faith foundation, the foundation frequency of faith is when you recognize the presence of God, it is a great opportunity for you to be able to lift his voice, your voice, and be specific to him. Listen, be quiet. He shouted louder. When Jesus heard him in verse 49, it says, Jesus heard him and stopped and said, Tell him to come here. So now he's asking for Barnamaeus.

Faith As The Foundation Frequency

SPEAKER_00

Again, faith is the substance of things what? Hoped for. Faith is the foundation frequency. It is the foundation of everything we do as Christ's followers. So my question again to you is, what are you hoping for? Jesus literally asked the same question to Bartimaeus in verse 49, 50, and 51. When Jesus heard him, he said, Tell him to come here. So they called the blind man, cheer up, they said, Jesus is calling you. And in verse 50, Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and he came to Jesus. And in verse 51, Hebrews 11:1 became real to Barnabas because Jesus said, What do you want me to do for you? Now think about this scripture. Think about this whole five, six verses that we just read. This guy's blind. He's sitting behind, he's sitting beside the road begging, and he hears that Jesus of Nazareth is near. He had heard all of the things that Jesus had done in his three-year ministry. He heard of all the lame that were that were healed and made to walk, the the deaf that were given their their hearing back, the child of Jairus' daughter, who was healed by Jesus, all of these miracles. He had heard all of those things. And now he now he's standing in front of Jesus. And if you're like me, I'm reading the story and I'm like, Jesus goes, What do you want me to do for you? What do you mean, what do you want me to do for you, Jesus? The dude's blind. He wants to be able to see. But Jesus, I really believe Jesus was really showing us what Hebrews 11.1 was really supposed to look like. And Jesus said, What do you want me to do for you? Goes right into Hebrews 11:1. What are you hoping for? So as you're listening to this podcast today, I'm going to ask you that same question. What are you hoping for? What is that thing in your heart and in your life that you desire God to do for you? Super simple here. What do you want me to do for you in verse 51? Bartimae says, My rabbi, I want to see. And then in verse 52, I love it. And Jesus said, Go, for your faith has healed you. And instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road. So my question for you this morning, guys, is what are you hoping for? What is it you're hoping for? Now, every year at Create, every year during our masterminds, every whiteboard session I do with a corner member, what we do is I put up five giant white post-it notes, the big ones, like two foot by three foot. Faith, health, relationship, business, finances, they're all across them. And then I look at them and I go, What are you hoping for in these? I create every year. My good buddy Jake Hamilton leads worship every year. We get up at the end of the faith component. This past year, my good friend Mayo Sowell, I've had John Maxwell, Erwin McManus, I'll get up and end the faith component. And I actually did this talk last year in the faith component about blind Bartimaeus, about faith is specific.

What Are You Hoping For?

SPEAKER_00

And that's the truth I want you to understand. When we talk about this, this frequency of faith, the foundation frequency, it is the foundation that everything is built on. Ken, why the core five? Because faith, health, and relationships are the foundation that when we get them in alignment, it gives God then an opportunity to build a great business and give us the opportunity to obtain resources, wealth, finances so we can steward them well in order to build and fund the kingdom of God. What do you want me to do with you? Guys, faith is specific. So the question I'm gonna ask you today is, God, what are you what are you what are you hoping for? Guys, what do you want God to do for you when it comes to your faith? Blind Barnamaeus is a perfect example. What do you want? He goes, I want to see. And Jesus said, Your faith has made you well. And then it says, immediately his eyes were opened and he followed Jesus. When your faith is on, your decisions carry peace, and the right people show up in your life. When it's off, it doesn't matter how hard you hustle. It doesn't matter how hard you grind, it takes relationships to go to the next level. For Brian Barnamaeus, it took the relationship that he had with Jesus and Jesus stopping. He got Jesus' attention. What do you want from me? I want to see faith is specific. I'll never forget August of 1993, 25 years old, never been to church, didn't really know anything even about church. I literally have my Bible sitting here with me right here. I remember when I went to church the very first time, and the pastor preached a message about the rich young ruler. And he said, open your Bible too. And I'm like, I had no idea. So I literally had to go to the front of the Bible to look at the index to find out where that book of the Bible was because I literally had no clue. And I'll never forget, I had gotten invited. I went August the 8th, was the first Sunday that I went with Steve and Doria, good friends of mine, good friends of mine, Jason, who I played softball with every weekend, who had kept inviting me. Steve and Doria were the student pastors there at Chestnut Mountain. They were my next door neighbors. I'd never, again, guys may have been to church five or six times in my entire life. I knew about Jesus from Easter. I knew a little bit about Jesus from Christmas, but that was the extent of my faith. I literally had no foundation in my life. August the 8th, I go, August the 15th, I go to church. And I'll never forget for a week from August the 8th to August the 15th, I had all of these questions. Man, the Holy Spirit was drawing me. Scripture says that unless the Holy Spirit draws us, we cannot come to God. Maybe while you're listening to this podcast today, is God saying, I just want to draw you into a place to where you can hear my voice, to where you can speak to me, to where I can answer you. And I'll

Bartimaeus And Specific Faith

SPEAKER_00

never forget I set through those two or three services. And then on August the 22nd, 1993, I'm sitting there in this service on a Sunday morning in a Southern Baptist church in Northeast Georgia. And I'll never forget me saying to God, God, if you'll if you'll just this feeling I've had for the past few weeks, and I had no idea what it was. I was I was so illiterate when it comes to scripture. And I said, God, if you'll give me that, this feeling, if you'll let me keep what I have, I'll serve you for the rest of my life. And I'll never forget, I begin to weep. Pastor had just given an invitation. I get up and I walk down front, August the 22nd, 1993, and I gave my life to Christ. And it was a true 2 Corinthians 5, 17. Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. And I was a brand new individual from that day forward. So transformed that all of these people in my life, friends, relatives, started giving their lives to Christ because they saw the difference in my life. And when it comes to faith, guys, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen. So my question to you today is what are you hoping for? What is it? What's that thing that you are hoping for? Blind Barnamae came to him and he said, Jesus, I want to see. And as you're listening to this podcast today, I just I want to encourage you, like take some time and really stop. Spend some time with guys, with God, get in worship, open God's word, and go, okay, God, I want to hear from you today. But I want to encourage you to write down what you're hoping for. Again, this whole book, All 14 Frequencies of Proximity, is listed in our core five: faith, health, relationship, business, and finances. I call those the most five, the five most important relationships of our life. Faith, our relationship with Jesus. What does your relationship with Jesus look like? And what do you want God to do with you or for you in your faith or your personal relationship, your journey in your relationship as a Christ follower? What do you want God to do for you? In your health. That's your relationship with yourself. What do you want? Guys, when I when I came back from the SEC, ACC Umpire Camp in September, October of 2019, I went to camp. I had a phenomenal camp. Like a couple buddies already on staff in the ACC, in the SEC, Rusty, one of my good friends, was minor league umpire of the year, worked at several hundred big league games. Marvin Hudson, who's a dear friend of mine, who's been in the big leagues now for 25, 26 years as an umpire. I knew what I wanted to do was I wanted to umpire college baseball at the division one level. I go, I have a great camp. But I remember Ray Gregson pulled me aside. He goes, dude, Ken, you have a great rapport with the players and with the coaches. You have a great instinct of what to do on the field. Like your timing, you are so good. But dude, you got to lose weight. We were shocked when we saw you. We were shocked at how well you could move. Because guys, I came home from that camp. I'll never forget it. We had eaten like super like pancakes and crab cakes, eggs, and benedict. We're in New Orleans. So I'm eating like crazy for breakfast. And I remember I walked off the field that day and I said, no more. I am going to get in shape because this is what I want. I want to do, I want to umpire baseball at the division one level. I'll never forget it. I came home from New Orleans. The first thing I did was step on the scale. And I'm like, I'm like getting all the excess air out of me. I am stripped down, no clothes. I'm on this scale. And I looked down and it's just doing its thing. And it ended about three, almost 310 pounds. I was disgusted with myself. But I said, you know what, God? I said, I'm going to get in shape. And I made a goal. I took a before picture, took a picture of the scale, I put it on social media, and I said, I'm going to lose 66 pounds. Guys, for those of you guys watching this on video today, here's my, here's my planner from this morning, my goals. Now it says 106 pounds. I was very specific on what I, what were, where was my faith? My faith was I was going to lose 66 pounds. Didn't know how I was going to do it, but I knew, number one, I'm going to put it in social media. I'm going to be accountable to everybody that I know. I'm going to lose 66 pounds. And when I got to 60 pounds, I moved it to 86 pounds. When I got to where I had lost 80 pounds, I moved it to 106 pounds. And it stays, it's been at 106 pounds now for about probably a year, year and a half. So about four years to get to that 80 pound mark. But guys, I was very specific in what I wanted in my health journey. In your relationships. And we're going to walk through all of these frequencies and cover all five of these core five areas over the next 14 episodes. What are you believing God for in your relationships, your business, your finances? But let's go back to today because today is all about faith, the foundation frequency. What does your foundation look like in God? What is your foundation of your life look like? Guys, I get to work with some of the most amazing faith-based entrepreneurs, some of the most successful faith-based entrepreneurs on the planet. Every year, we host create the number one faith-based entrepreneur conference in the world with good friends like John Maxwell and Erwin

Goals, Health, And Accountability

SPEAKER_00

McManus and Ed Mallette and Gary Brecca, Eddie Wilson, Horse Schultze, the former co-founder and CEO of the Rich Carlton, some of the most amazing faith-based entrepreneurs on the planet. But the one thing that we all have in common is faith. We all have that foundation frequency intact. And so my question to you today as we wrap up this episode is where is your faith journey? And I want you to be specific. As you're listening to this podcast episode, grab a pen, grab a paper, have one of our planners in the planner. What do I want my faith journey to look like? Guys, several years ago, I made a goal. Like I'm going to be in, I'm going to do my quiet time every day. I just opened my UVersion app. You can see it on my phone right here if you're watching on video. 837 days in a row, I'm on this app. 837 days in a row. A year and a half ago, a little bit over a year and a half ago, April of last year, we were in Puerto Rico for our mastermind. And I get up to go to the bathroom. It's about three or four o'clock in the morning. You know, you're trying to stay asleep and do the deal, and because you don't want to wake up much, because then my brain will get going and it won't shut down. For all of you entrepreneurs, you know exactly what I'm talking about. And God just spoke to me out of the book. He said, Ken, I want you to get in my word. I'm like, God, I'm in your word. I mean, I knew what he was talking about, but I'm like, God, I'm in your word. I mean, that was, we're 837 days. So that was probably four or 500 days. I'm three or four hundred days in a row in your version. I've done hundreds of devotionals. And I, but I knew exactly what God was talking to me about. And he was saying this. He goes, I want you in my word. I want you in my physical Bible. What's funny? A few months before that, I had found my my this is my pastor's Bible when I pastored. I pastored for about 13 and a half years, senior pastor, planted a church uh for about six or seven years, and I had not. Physically been in my Bible in almost seven years. And here's God speaking to me at a mastermind at four o'clock in the morning when I get up to go to the bathroom. And God's like, I want you in my word. I said, Okay, God. So I made a commitment to get in God's word at least five days a week. And so now, as I did this morning early, I got up, I did my U version devotional. I love the uh I love the guys uh from California that do the Mark Explained right now. I mean, actually in the book of Mark, Mark Explained. They give about a 10-minute devotional over the chapter, and then it gives you the opportunity to read the chapter. And so I literally play the chapter and I pick up my Bible and I follow along within the chapter. I follow along in my Bible as it reads the chapter, just taking notes in my Bible as God speaks. I knew exactly what God meant when he said, I want you in my word. That was a year and four or five months ago. And I hardly ever miss. And it's it's God's way. And it's crazy, guys. The last month or two months, the things that God speaks to me, this entire book, guys, came out of my time with God. Another goal that I set a couple of years ago was this. When I'm in town, when I'm at home, I live in the Alpharetta area right outside of Atlanta now. My butt is in a seat in church because it's so easy these days. You just I've got a computer screen here, I got a computer screen here, I got a computer screen here, and I got a computer screen there. Like they're everywhere. I can literally do church at home, which is what most people do. But I knew that that wasn't what God had for me. And so when God said, be specific, what do you want? Okay, God, if I'm at home, if I'm not traveling and I'm at home, my butt is going to be in my home church. For years, five or six years, it was Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, and now it's been Free Chapel. So now Michelle and I, my wife, we go to Free Chapel in Gainesville. This past Sunday, it's Father's Day. I want to sleep. I don't want to get up. But I'm like, nope, God, I made a commitment to you because I knew what I wanted my faith journey to look like. So as I close, I want to ask you this question: What are you hoping for? What do you want your faith journey to look like? What do you want and desire God to

Building Daily Faith Practices

SPEAKER_00

do for you? And be specific. And I'd love to pray for you guys real quick. I don't know if I've ever prayed on a podcast, but we're gonna do it today. I'd love to pray for you today. And I just kind of want to lead you in this prayer because I think this prayer is powerful, especially when it comes to faith, which is the foundation frequency. It is the first frequency. That foundation frequency is this. Jesus, I thank you. I thank you for what you've done for me. I thank you for your death, burial, and resurrection. And I thank you that I can accept that as payment and sacrifice for my sins. And by faith, I can have a relationship with you. And because I have a relationship with you, and because of what you sacrifice for me, I get to have a relationship with the Father. And I thank you for that. Jesus, here's what I'll ask you: the same thing, the same question that you ask blind Barnamaeus in Mark chapter 10. What do you want? Jesus, what I want is a greater passion for your word and for your presence. So, Jesus, I ask in my faith journey that you give me a greater passion for your word and a greater passion for your presence. Some people ask all the time, guys. They say, Kim, how do I get rid of this sin habit in my life? Or how do I get rid of this? I listen to music or I drink or I drink too much or pornography or whatever it is. I don't care what the sin thing is in your life. If you'll continue to ask God to give you a greater passion for his word, the more you fall in love, guys, with this, the more you fall in love with your relationship with Jesus and who Jesus is. Guys, I'm telling you, one of the biggest times I've had God speak to me in the past few years, I'm actually working on my next book. I'm working on my next two books, and this book doesn't even launch until until the middle of August. Our launch is August 18th, 19th, and 20th. We were getting ready for church and I said, I'm gonna go in and do my quiet time. And I came in and I sat down. And it was like, I'm sitting Sunday morning, I'm about to go to church, about to go to worship, about to go listen to Pastor Jensen speak. And I sit down and God, it was like, it was like I literally could not read without taking notes. God was speaking to me so much. Why? Because I constantly pray, God, give me a greater passion for your word and give me a greater passion for your presence. Jesus, I want you. And out of that, all other things that we need, seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these other things will be added to us, is what Matthew says. Guys, if you seek God first, this foundation frequency, this frequency of faith, because here's the deal the frequency of faith, just as a key fob transmits that 14-bit proxy code, those 14 frequencies, when you're a person of faith and you're in love with Christ and God is doing something amazing, and you're hearing the voice of God and you're in God's word, when you do that, guys, that frequency that you have other people around you are going to recognize. So frequency number one is faith,

Prayer Plus Book And Event Invite

And then faith is the substance of things what? Hoped for. What are you hoping for? God's why I write my it's why it's why I write my goals down a couple times a day, at least 300 times a year, is because God, this is what I know that you put in my heart, and this is what I'm hoping for. And when I look at this every day and I'm writing goals down in the morning, I'm writing goals down in the evening, and I know where I'm going for, you can't get me off track. There's no way. There is, there is no distraction that's going to get me off track of going for and after what I know that God number one has put in my heart, and number two, what I've asked God. Again, guys, thank you so much for joining us on another episode of Proximity with Ken Johnson.
